• The Scenic Route Through the Southern Valley Our day begins with a comfortable morning drive south of Cusco, following the route of the Vilcanota River. Unlike the rush to other destinations, this journey is rich in history. We will pass through the historic district of Checacupe, a fascinating town where you can witness the architectural evolution of Peru through three distinct bridges spanning the river: an authentic Inca suspension bridge, a robust colonial stone bridge, and a modern steel one, all standing side by side. After a hearty, restorative highland breakfast in a local community, we begin our winding ascent up the mountain roads.
• A Walk in the Clouds: The Gentle Ascent The true magic of Palcoyo is its accessibility. Our transport does the heavy lifting, dropping us off at a trailhead that is already situated at 4,900 meters (16,076 feet). From here, the hike is remarkably gentle and relatively flat, making it accessible for families and travelers of varying fitness levels. Almost immediately upon leaving the vehicle, the sprawling, multi-colored landscape reveals itself.
